Bilger was the owner of the Rockridge Shopping Center quarry; Blake was one of his partners. Blake & Bilger stamps are not rare, but they’re usually very hard to read. Two others are on 49th Street at Desmond and the corner of College and Hudson. I have seen Blake & Bilger marks in Berkeley with large double numerals in the center field (from 1907 and 1910), but I have yet to find a dated one in Oakland.

Today I spotted a Blake & Bilger stamp on Arch Street, in Berkeley, that had a large numeral “10″ in the center. So B&B stamps can have dates; I just haven’t seen one yet.

The mark at College and Hudson has been destroyed in a recent repaving.
